Soul (2020)

I finally bit the bullet and watched this after avoiding it for a while. I am currently in so much grief thinking about how much of my life I have wasted not watching this sooner.

I’ll get out the way of what everyone else is saying in that this film is gorgeous, Pixar continue to one up their movies everytime, people were blown away by the realism in Toy Story 4, but this is just another level. Somehow they are making animated people look so real yet are keeping that cartoon element. One thing that blew my mind is at one point they gave the characters sweaty brows! They made it look so realistic and not over the top, it’s the little things like that that make pixar the best in their league.

And there were multiple times during this movie where I found myself smiling like a little kid. It was the first time in a while watching a recent pixar movie and getting that same feeling I did when I was younger. Like watching Up, Wall-e and Toy story. Soul had that PIXAR feeling, and it's great. Everything about it is so creative, the range of character designs, how they portray certain feelings like being “in the zone”. I really appreciate when any piece of art holds on to a feeling and lets the imagery and music take over and Soul was really good at this. And it was the little sparks of humour, random creativity and all round good vibes that's reignited my excitement for Pixar.

But I’ve gotta say it did cover some dark topics and show some pretty wild stuff for a “kids” movie. But like everyone says Disney isn’t just made for kids.

So if you haven’t watched this already (like me)...do, it’s one of Pixar’s best in a while.
